Our Programmes

HRO stands with communities facing conflict and fragile realities in Turkey and Syria. We combine immediate humanitarian aid with long-term development strategies, empowering individuals to rebuild their lives with dignity and hope. By fostering local participation, integrating services, and forging strategic partnerships, we equip communities with the skills and resources to design solutions tailored to their specific needs. Our unwavering commitment to psychosocial well-being ensures that all individuals, particularly those with vulnerabilities, are included in the path towards a brighter future to rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.

In the face of crisis, HRO’s MHPSS Program empowers individuals and communities to heal and thrive. We build resilience and well-being by providing accessible, culturally sensitive mental health services and psychosocial support to refugees, internally displaced people, and beneficiaries of violence. Through a multi-layered approach, we:

  • Expand access:Offer a comprehensive package of MHPSS services that link community-based support to integrated health facilities, increasing entry points, reducing stigma, and achieving greater cost-effectiveness.
  • Strengthen local capacity:Train and equip healthcare workers and community members with MHPSS skills, creating a sustainable support network.
  • Address diverse needs: Tailor interventions to individuals and communities, including trauma-focused therapy, group psychoeducation, and support for families of missing persons, GBV beneficiary, and former detainees.
  • Promote mental health:Address issues like anxiety, stress, grief, and social isolation, improving overall well-being and enabling individuals to fully engage in their communities.
  • Utilize innovation:We offer online e-therapy platforms and mobile applications, providing convenient, confidential access to mental health support and empowering individuals to manage their well-being.

Our dedicated team of psychiatrists, psychologists, psychosocial workers, and mhGAP-trained doctors provide a range of services, from individual counseling to group support, both in-person and online. We also advocate for mental health awareness and break down stigma through community outreach and media campaigns.

By investing in MHPSS and using innovative approaches, we empower individuals and communities to overcome the challenges of conflict and crisis, building a brighter future for all.

HRO’s Protection Programs empower vulnerable individuals and communities in conflict and crisis to live with dignity, safety, and equal rights. We work on three key pillars: preventing violence and discrimination, responding to beneficiary’s needs, and promoting justice and accountability.

In the face of violence and conflict, HRO’s Protection Program empowers vulnerable individuals and communities to build safer, more just lives. We work tirelessly to:

  • Prevent and respond to violence:HRO tackles gender-based violence, child protection concerns, and the devastating impact of landmines through tailored interventions and comprehensive support services.
  • Promote equality: We advocate for human rights, providing legal assistance and supporting individuals in reclaiming their rights and accessing essential services.
  • Build safer environments:HRO fosters positive social norms and strengthens local capacities to prevent and report abuse, creating a culture of zero tolerance for exploitation and discrimination.

Our key areas of focus include:

  1. Gender-based violence (GBV):Preventing and responding to GBV, ensuring safe access to services, and empowering beneficiaries to rebuild their lives.
  2. Child protection:Creating safe spaces for children, promoting positive social norms to prevent violence, and supporting beneficiaries to heal and recover.
  3. Mine action:Reducing the risk of injury from explosives through education, community engagement, and victim assistance.
  4. Protection and Legal services (rule of law):Restoring dignity and promoting access to justice for vulnerable groups through monitoring, referrals, legal assistance, and other services.
  5. Protection from sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA):Building a culture of zero tolerance for PSEA by raising awareness, training aid workers, and providing safe reporting mechanisms.

Through a comprehensive approach and dedicated team, HRO helps communities overcome the challenges of violence and injustice, building a safer and more just future for all.

HRO’s unwavering commitment to protection empowers individuals and communities to overcome adversity and build a brighter future. By working with our partners and communities, we can create communities where everyone enjoys safety, dignity, and equal rights.

In the wake of conflict and displacement, HRO empowers communities to overcome adversity and build a brighter future. Through our Transitional Development Program, we work with communities to:

  • Strengthen social cohesion and reduce conflict: We facilitate dialogue, promote tolerance, and address the legacy of violence through training, community engagement activities, and peacebuilding initiatives.
  • Rebuild livelihoods and foster economic resilience: We provide vocational training, support income-generating activities, and help communities access essential services and infrastructure.
  • Empower local leadership and ownership: We build the capacity of community organizations, leaders, and volunteers to manage their own projects and ensure sustainable solutions.

Our program achieves this through:

  • Investing in socio-economic development (Early Recovery and Livelihood):We support microfinance initiatives, small business development, and infrastructure projects that create jobs and improve living conditions.
  • Strengthening vocational and skills development (Early recovery and Livelihood):We work to provide vocational training opportunities for youth and adults.
  • Building local capacity and ownership (Localization):We transfer skills and knowledge to community actors, support the formation of community-based organizations, and advocate for policies that empower local leadership.
  • Promoting inter-community dialogue and conflict resolution (Peacebuilding):We train local leaders in mediation skills and support community-driven initiatives to address tensions and build trust.

HRO’s Community Resilience and Transitional Development Program is a catalyst for positive change, enabling communities to heal, rebuild, and thrive in the long term.

Our Partnership

HRO defines partnership as a mutually beneficial and interactive relationship between two or more organizations, which is undertaken for a specific programmatic purpose, and which works towards a shared goal of positive and sustainable programme impact.

HRO considers partnerships to be of fundamental importance in the way we work towards achieving our mission. The ultimate purpose of working in partnership is to increase the positive effects of our intended beneficiaries. The benefits include:

to utilize the considerable experience, knowledge, and contacts of local organizations already on the ground.

to deliver sustainable services via existing organizations and service providers (our partners) and to thereby strengthen the overall system, rather than setting up parallel services that would cease to be viable once our funding expired.

to combine our resources and expertise with our partners, meaning that we can work more effectively – and achieve more – than we would if working individually.

to facilitate capacity building and sustainability; by supporting partner organizations to develop skills and capacities through projects, that can enable partners to become stronger, more independent entities, which are able to work independently after funding ceases.

Our Advocacy

HRO advocates towards decision-makers in order to obtain full respect for the rights of displaced and vulnerable people. We advocate at local, national, regional and global levels, basing messages and strategies on our first-hand experience and specialized expertise. Advocating with the United Nations, especially with protection-mandated agencies, is a priority in order to strengthen the humanitarian response. We also engage with a range of other relevant actors in order to secure and maintain access to displaced and vulnerable people.
