“IF Foundation” Project Annual Report 2024

During the first year of the project, HRO teams had reached 14,197 BNFs (10,768 IDPs and 3,429 HCs), including 6,386 men, 6,269 women, 774 boys, and 768 girls, of them 482 were PwDs through 10 healthcare facilities or by two mobile teams, addressing their urgent needs. Progress towards reaching the project goal was as follows:

  •  Activity 1.1.1. Provision of MHPSS group activities: The HRO project teams targeted 11,908 BNFs (5,559 men, 5,340 women, 448 boys, and 561 girls) with 1,397 sessions on topics such as well-being and the impact of crises, bipolar disorder, mental health and stigma, epilepsy, loss, grief, mourning, traumatic events and their effects, stress and self-care, self-harm and suicide, fear, its effects and how to cope with it, behavioral disorders in children, depression, and aggression in children. Of them, 412 BNFs (124 men, 262 women, 18 boys, and 8 girls) were targeted through 51 awareness-raising sessions on international days, including World Suicide Prevention Day, World Mental Health Day, World Children’s Day, and International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
  • Activity 2.1.1. Provision of MHPSS individual consultations: The HRO project teams targeted 3,907 BNFs (1,807 Men, 1,459 women, 392 Boys, 249 girls) with:

The total number of MHPSS individual consultations was 8,732 (3,586 men, 3,220 women, 1,163 Boys, 763 girls). of them, 7,008 consultations were conducted by the PSWs including (2,911 Men, 2,571 women, 906 Boys, 620 girls). The PSWs implemented the following:

  • 792 Initial psychosocial assessment sessions, (301 men, 268 women, 138 boys, 85 girls),
  • 2,167 PFA sessions (1,056 Men, 866 women, 136 boys, 109 girls).
  • 682 MHPSS psycho-education sessions for the BNF or one of their caregivers (342 men, 340 women)
  • 338 PM+ sessions (227 men, 111 women)
  • 3,029 follow-up sessions (1,630 men,1.399 women).

The MH GAP doctors targeted 575 BNFs through 1,109 sessions as follows: (521 men, 415 women,117 boys, and 56 girls), reaching various MHPSS disorders, including schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, epilepsy, psychological stress, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Moreover, the psychologist conducted 615 psychotherapy sessions (154 men, 236 women, 140 boys, and 85 girls).

  • Activity 2.1.2. Facilitating Staff care and peer support sessions for PSWs and health care staff inside the facilities: During the project period, HRO teams targeted 208 (HFs staff and PSWs) with 122 peer support sessions (many of them attended more than one session), focusing on group discussions, sharing personal experiences, and the difficulties and challenges they faced with possible solutions.
  • Activity 2.1.3. Setup referral pathway, and identification and referral of BNFs: During the project period, 1,774 BNFs (732 men, 599 women, 253 boys, 190 girls) were targeted through referral services based on their needs, including 486 BNFs (230 men, 156 women, 67 boys, 33 girls) were referred to other MHPSS services, 17 BNFs (7 boys and 10 girls) to child protection services, 66 BNFs (64 women and 2 Girls) to GBV services, 11 BNFs to legal services, 1,043 BNFs to medical services, 151 to other services such as livelihood, older people services, etc.
  • Activity 2.1.4. Building the capacity of health staff on MHPSS-related topics: The project teams trained 68 trainees from the HFs staff (33 male, 35 female) on MHPSS basics, PFA, identification and referral, and suicide prevention.
  • Activity 2.2.1. Individual supervision sessions of PSWs: The 2 MHPSS field supervisors targeted 20 PSWs with 484 individual supervision sessions, focusing on the mechanism of implementing activities step by step and discussing case files, difficulties, and challenges faced by PSWs.
  • Activity 2.2.2. Group supervision sessions of PSWs: The 2 MHPSS field supervisors targeted 20 PSWs with49 group supervision sessions, where the PSWs discussed case files and shared their experiences and difficulties through open discussions.
  • Activity 2.2.3. Group Supervision sessions of MHPSS field supervisors, psychologists and mhGAP doctors: MHPSS field supervisors, psychologists, and mhGAP doctors were targeted with 48 group supervision sessions as follows:
  • The MHPSS technical specialist targeted the MHPSS field technical supervisors and the 2 psychologists with 36 group supervision sessions.
  • The psychiatrist supervisor targeted the 2 mhGAP doctors with 12 group supervision sessions.

 

During the 1st year of the project, 368 impact assessment surveys were conducted to measure improvements in perceptions, knowledge, attitudes (including stigma), and behaviors among healthcare workers in facilities toward individuals with MHPSS problems. The assessment revealed an improvement rate of 28.85%. However, this improvement was negatively impacted by significant challenges arising from changes in the recruitment of healthcare workers in facilities.

Also, 6,880 impact assessment surveys were conducted to measure improvements in perceptions, knowledge, attitudes (including stigma), and behaviors among community members and families toward individuals with MHPSS problems. The assessment revealed an improvement rate of 15.73%.

  • HRO team aimed to measure the dropout rate among BNFs who discontinued treatment before completing their sessions by conducting a psychosocial assessment session targeting 755 BNFs to identify symptoms suffered by the beneficiary to develop the appropriate recovery plan for him. Based on the assessment key findings, 560 BNFs were identified as having attended more than 4 sessions, indicating their continued engagement in treatment. Conversely, 195 BNFs attended fewer than 4 sessions and subsequently discontinued their treatment, forming the dropout group. The dropout rate was calculated as 20%.
