Assessment of Aleppo’s Neighborhoods Post-War: Service Challenges and Humanitarian Intervention Opportunities
After the liberation of Syria from the previous regime, we visited neighborhoods in Aleppo to assess the situation of the residents and identify their essential needs in protection and psychosocial support. The assessment was based on sampling from the local community to understand the challenges they face and to study their living conditions and the impact of the conflict on their mental health.
The city’s neighborhoods suffer from severe shortages in basic services, including water, electricity, and waste management, in addition to deteriorating infrastructure and buildings at risk of collapse due to years of war and earthquakes that struck the region. These crises have left widespread destruction and exacerbated poverty and suffering among the population.
This assessment highlights the urgent need for comprehensive humanitarian interventions aimed at improving living conditions and enhancing protection services, contributing to the resilience of affected communities and the gradual restoration of their lives
